Follow the link above to see the final auction sale. This post contains the names of all donors to our auction as well as the purchasers of each.

We were overwhelmed at the outpouring of contributions for the auction, the auction itself, and the buzz and upbeat nature of the day! It is so great to live in a community that cares!

From Our Art Auction Volunteer Coordinator, Carmin Ruff

Regarding the Student Offerings

Over 20 students from Winamac Community High school art classes created and donated artwork for the Veteran’s Memorial Swinging Bridge Art Auction. All I have to say is WOW what a talented group of young men and ladies.

I am working to frame each of the pieces of artwork they have provided.

What a testament that each of these young members of our community were willing to donate and be involved in a community project! Thank you to high school Art Teacher Natalie Dickinson for collaborating with us for this project!

When we began working on this project I had no idea how many wonderfully talented and artistic people we have in this community! I am so thankful and humbled that they are willing to donate their beautifully made creations toward our efforts to Light up Our Legacy!

9×12 Painting of the Bench by the Bridge

Anthony “Marcus” is a senior at Winamac Community High School. He has always liked art classes since he was young. He enjoys the freedom they encouraged and the creativity he could spill on whatever he worked on. He is still improving his own style and hopes to eventually have a career in it. He would eventually like to begin his own comic series later in life. His recent hobbies reflect this with drawing up different ideas with a pencil and a few sheets of paper. The painting he created for the Memorial Swinging bridge project is something he believes holds just as much importance as the bridge. The bench, he believes was most likely built around the same time as the bridge, reflected by wear and tear time has done to both. In fact, the bench was most likely put there to take in the atmosphere of the park and marvel the bridge just to your right. They each share something important that would decreased their value if it wasn’t for it; memories. Marcus writes “Memories are held dear to us as people as they remind us of simpler and happier times. Both of which are true when I remember my time at the park and it’s bridge”.

The parts of the picture he doesn’t want printed he cuts away with his assortment of tools and knives. “Hello, Tom Jones here, and contrary to popular belief, no, I’m not the singer. After graduating from Purdue (Boiler Up) and being a graphic artist now for almost 30 years, I’ve always had an eye and interest for photography. In the last five years I have devoted more time to learning as much as I can about landscape and night photography. My favorite subjects to shoot are the sun, moon, stars, Milky Way, International Space Station, lighthouses, and the agricultural farming community that is my home in North Central Indiana. Photography is definitely my creative outlet. It really humbles me that people would actually want to hang my work in their homes or places of work, and that makes me strive to get out there and continue to make pictures.”

Throw Blanket

30″x40″ Throw Blanket

Greg and Brenda started the MEMORIAL SWINGING BRIDGE project nearly 5 years ago. “The project is a County Wide Project dedicated to all Veterans of Pulaski County to preserve the bridge. The lighting was an original idea of Brenda’s which came into play as we knew the Bridge’s 100 birthday was on the horizon. The lights belong to all the people to honor the Veterans, Families, Business’s or whoever they choose; living or deceased. From there the project has been a train ride going downhill. The outpouring has been nothing short of amazing as we close in on our goal. Thank You to so many that they are hard to list. Our goal is in site and rededication is July 3, 2023. We hope you keep that date open and plan to attend.” Sincerely, Greg and Brenda Henry
